This video essay begins by recounting a childhood memory of Barbapapa, a pink shapeshifting cartoon character, before digressing to thoughts on language, memory, and the materiality of history. From Roman inscriptions carved in stone to Ancient Greek paintings weathered by time, the film traces how stories endure, or not, over centuries.
